Star City Motor Madness draws from throughout the Mid-Atlantic and beyond. Through fees from the participants and donations from sponsors, the event raises money for the Virginia Museum of Transportation which is located in Roanoke. For spectators all activities are free!
The evening of Friday, June 26th (6pm to 10pm) classic and special interest automobiles, trucks and motorcycles assemble for a cruise on Roanoke's historic "strip," Williamson Road. As was the case the last 7 years, this year all net proceeds will go the Virginia Museum of Transportation Automotive Gallery. The museum is famous for its diverse collection of America's transportation history with an impressive collection of railroad "rolling stock" including the famous Norfolk and Western J611 streamlined steam locomotive. The museum has developed an automotive gallery and funds raised by Star City Motor Madness will help with changing exhibits in the gallery.
Roanoke is Virginia's third largest city. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the city and surrounding suburbs are home to 236,000 residents. The two-day event, which draws from the region, the Mid-Atlantic States and beyond, has a positive impact on area hotels, motels, restaurants and attractions.
